Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

The arm can also lose tightness and firmness. Whether due to rapid weight loss or due to aging factors like losing skin elasticity and fat dropping. The result will be a sagging and loose arm skin which gives you an unpleasant overall appearance.

Brachioplasty or arm lift surgery is one of the most required cosmetic surgeries in Turkey. It is a surgical procedure that aims to improve the firmness and the contour of the arm for a better proportioned look.

How is arm lift surgery done ?

Arm lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon opens incision into the armpit through the back of the arm. The incision size varies depending on the level of sagginess, the amount of excess skin and the patients preferences.

1. Minimal incision for mini brachioplasty:

In which the surgeon opens a small crescent shaped incision into the armpit. That may extend into the arm to form a T line. This technique is suitable for minimal excess skin in the upper region of the arm. That produces minimal scars that will be hidden within the armpit.

2. Inner arm incision :

The incision goes from above the elbow to the armpit through the inner arm. This technique is suitable for moderate amount of excess skin and fat. The surgeon may use liposuction in combination with arm lift if there is a big amount of stubborn fat in the arm.

3. Extended incision :

The incision runs from above the elbow through the armpit then extends to the side of the chest. This technique is rarely used because of maximal scarring.

After removing excess skin and fat, the surgeon will pull in the skin to tighten it and the soft muscles, then he will close the incisions with external stitches. If the stitches are not resolvable or absorbable then the surgeon will remove them after few days.

After arm lift surgery

After arm lift surgery, the patient must wear a compression garment for about 4 to 6 weeks. That helps reduce the swelling and get the best result of the surgery. The patient will be able to return to work after 2 to 3 weeks (1 week for office work). More time is required for more vigorous activities. After 2 weeks the patient can start light sports such as walking and cycling, and can start all types of activities after 6 weeks.

Arm lift results

Arm lift results can be apparent almost immediately after the surgery. There will be some swelling and bruising the first 2 to 3 week, but this will fade after 6 to 8 weeks and the final results will be more visible. However, it may take 6 to 9 month for everything to completely settle.
